I need a Van, I want a Van….wait…...you have a Van for Sale?

So ever since I decided to come to Australia I have had a dream of travelling in a van around the country. Although there are different transportation options (Bus, Train) I felt that with a Van you could see more, and save money staying in Hostels…by sleeping in the van J

I had it on my list of goals…..even knowing that to buy a van would be quite expensive. When I looked them up they varied from about $2500-5000 depending on how big and what was in it. (that’s what he said? Haha)

So you can only imagine my reaction when a friend named Katherine I had met in the hostel told me that she was selling her van. Katherine had stayed in the hostel for a week in my room. She was an older woman, originally from Singapore. He was now living in Sydney, but was in Perth visiting a few friends of hers. She used to live in Perth years ago, but left when her and her husband separated.

Katherine and I had some really great life chats before bed. Usually I would get into the room around 9:30 or 10:00 pm, after my full day as a carnie. She was usually getting ready for bed, and I would sit on the floor by her and we would just talk about or lives, how we got here, goals, etc. It was really nice. When she left I got her number and email and hoped that we would keep in touch. Well I definitely met this woman for a reason…she was a piece of the puzzle J

Katherine rang me up a week after she had left the hostel and asked if she could take me to breakfast on Friday. She was flying back to Sydney on Sunday, so she wanted to see me one last time. Obviously I said yes (Free food! Haha j/k….well kinda. Hey! I’m a backpacker ;)

When I came down to the lobby to meet her Friday morning she was writing something up with the guy at the front desk of the hostel.  As we were leaving and walking over to the restaurant I asked her what she had been doing. She said “well…I am trying to sell my van”. I was like, you have a van??? (the wheels started turning instantly)  She said yes, it was my vehicle when I used to live here and I don’t need it anymore so I am ready to sell it. I asked her how much and she said she was trying to sell it fast so she was charging $1600. Hmmmm…..

We went for breakfast and it was really nice. We both had this delicious coconut porridge and a fruit smoothie….mmmmm. Throughout the whole conversation we were having I just couldn’t get the van out of my mind. My gut was just telling me that this was supposed to be my van. I know that makes no sense (well it will make sense to a few of you…;) mom) Honestly..it just felt right. (I realize how weird that sounds about an old, kinda rusty mini van….but this is my world now) hahaha…from sports car to old mini van….dun dun dun!

I asked Katherine to drop me off at the  library, as they have free wifi there (again..common people..when you are a backpacker you chase the word FREE around like it’s a kit kat bar!...mmmm….I would love a kit kat bar right now….dammit!)

When I got to the library I instantly started looking up the same model of the van with similar mileage and the cheapest one that I found was $2500….hmm. I knew that she had the van for 15 years, and had taken care of it. It is always a risk when you are buying an old vehicle, but at least I know that she hadn’t been taking it off any sweet jumps….or racing it. Haha

I called my Sister and told her about my situation. (She is my big decision go-to…obviously) I totally did not have $1600 but I thought hey, I will offer her what I can afford and if it’s meant to be then its meant to be J

I texted Katherine and wrote:

“Hey girl! It’s EM J Thanks again for breakfast today, it was really awesome to get to see you again. SO I just cannot stop thinking about your Van. I know you are asking $1600 for it, but I am only able to afford $1000. If you get desperate and want it sold fast, and are willing to sell it cheaper then let me know J Cheers! Em”

I was sooooooooooooooo excited when she texted me back this:

“Hey Em! Yes it was very great to see you today! I will sell it to you for that price J I know you will take care of her and she will have many travels and adventures with you. Call me later and we will set up a time to meet – Katherine”

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I have a van!! So I litterally have spent everything I own on this van. Haha. I have enough for my gas to get to the farm will I will be working. But honestly, I am very happy. This van is going to help me on my adventure, and allow me to see more of the country, cheaper J My plan is to take the seats out and put a mattress in the back. Honestly..talk about manifesting baby!!! I manifested this Van into my life and I couldn’t be more happy J JJ

It is funny how your perspective changes as your life does. I would not have even looked twice at this van at home, let alone drive it. I would have been embarrassed. Now I am so happy to have it, and make it into my little “home-on-wheels”!

Good thing I worked my ass off as a Carnie to help pay for my old Mini-Van!”---- that needs to be a bumper sticker.. haha

Now en route to Carnamah….aka Australian Outback. Off to the next adventure that life has in store for me J
