That will make sense further down....haha
Um..where did the last week go?
Well it’s been quite the ride the past few days I will say.
I am going to bullet form some of the events that took place for this one. I
think it will help me remember everything that happened….
*Spent 5 amazing days with one of my most amazing friends
Erin in Strathmore AB. It was so awesome because she had a few days off when I
first got there so we had lots of time to hang out and catch up J We had many great like
chats (as always) and she kicked my ass in a few crazy workouts. (Insanity…I
shake my fist at you!! Lol) As always, leaving her made me feel a bit sad, but
I know that I will meet up with her again soon for more laughs and adventures J Love ya Erin. (P.s talk about someone making
their work pants look good…hellloo Erin!) Good job girl! Hah I mean…..?....um…...did
this just get awkward?
*My flights to get over here were pretty long- but I got so
lucky with my plane “neighbours”. They are were awesome!
Flight#1-
Calgary-Vancouver (1.5hours) Sat
beside an older lady who’s first thing she said to me was “wow..you’re
BIG!...well not fat big, just long big”. Hahahahah. It was pretty funny. She
was very sweet and told me that she and her husband were going on their very
first cruise at the young age of 70. She was super sweet and we chatted pretty
much the whole flight.
Flight#2- Vancouver-Guangzhou
(14 hours) On this flight I had a window seat (thank god) and was sitting
beside a really nice girl named Julia. She was a Pilates teacher from Vancouver
and was flying to India to do some yoga and meditation. Her boyfriend worked on
a Salmon boat and was coming to meet up with her in 3 weeks. She was really
awesome to sit beside and I even told her that she could lean on me to sleep if
she wanted (seemed kinda creepy after the words had already exited my mouth but
she thought it was cool…haha). I just know how shitty the middle seat it! You
can NEVER get comfy, and good luck getting any sleep at all. We each took a sleeping pill and two glasses
of wine. I passed out for a few hours but the poor girl couldn’t sleep at all.
The food…ew. Well it was food, and I kept telling myself that I was grateful for it, BUT I am pretty
sure I ate something plastic in the second one. It was all mushy and covered in
a weird sauce (is that how you get away if your meal doesn’t look so great?
Just cover it in some kind of sauce?) Julia offered me a boiled egg that she
had somehow got through customs..haha. I thought that was pretty funny.
Anyways, all in all she was a wicked neighbour and I really enjoyed chatting
with her J
Flight#3-
Guangzhou-Perth (8 hours) I got lucky AGAIN and sat beside this Aussie kid
named Cody. He was just coming back from travelling in Europe for 3 months and
was really cool to talk to. He had a good sense of humor so he didn’t get
offended when I started to make fun of him. Haha. He was also a young boy so I
gave him all of the yucky things from my plane meals that I didn’t like and he
ate them. Haha. I was able to sleep a bit on this flight too, but at one point
when I woke up I literally couldn’t turn my head right, and I am pretty sure I
had drooled all over my grey sweater (note to self..next time wear black to
hide the drool) Cody gave me some tips of cool places to go which was really
awesome. As much as I love my Lonely Planet book, the locals always know best!
He gave me his contact number in case I needed anything, which was really
sweet.
5:45 AM- WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 24th- I have
landed……shit just got real......
Ok, so I get off the plane and get my bags. No issues getting through customs, and they
must have believed me when said I didn’t have any plants or nuts in my bags
(hehe…nuts) cuz they let me right through. I didn’t have to go Left (left=bad
line....they check your bag) I got to go right J
SUCCESS!
Once I was on the other side I sat down and then had to
figure out how to get to my hostel. As I was sitting on the bench this really
nice German girl came up to me and said “excuse me..are you just getting here?”
I said yes and she said “my boyfriend and I are leaving today and we have this
Australian phone card with $19 on it and we wanted to give it to someone
travelling, so here you go!”…wow! That was nice!
I started asking what busses I needed to take to get to my
hostel. I met a really friendly lady that worked there and she told me all the
busses that I needed to catch and it would only cost me $3.80. (for a really
expensive country the transportation is pretty cheap) While I was on the bus I
met another Canadian named MJ. He was from Kamloops but had been going to
school in Victoria. This was his first time traveling so I think he was a bit
nervous. (fair enough) We both changed busses at the stop and I took his
contact info so we could maybe meet up down the road. He was heading out in a
week for SE Asia, and then coming back to Perth in 2 months.
I finally found the backpackers and it’s really nice! The
name is Ocean View Backpackers, which makes sense because it’s literally right
on the ocean. I asked to be put in an all female dorm. When I got up to the
room a few of the girls were still sleeping. There are 8 beds in my room. Elisa
was the first one I met and she is from Sweden and she is awesome! I don’t know
all the names yet, but there are 4 girls from Paris, one from Sweden one from
Germany and then me J
All the girls seems really great and I felt really good vibes from the room.
I decided to head out to get my bearings of the area and
find something to eat that wasn’t shitty plane food. I forgot how HOT the sun
is out here! AY! Sunscreen everyday is totally necessary …yes…I am a Ginger.
Shut up!
I walked down and found a cute café called The Tube. I went
in and ordered a wrap and sat down to use the wifi. I needed to apply for my
tax number (it’s what you need to work here) and find somewhere to get my phone
unlocked. The girl that served me was really nice. He name was Jasmine and she told
me she has been here 4 months from the UK. She asked me if I was looking for
work and I obviously said yes. She told me who the owner was and that they
might be hiring in the next few weeks. I was a bit embarrassed as I was dressed
in ripped jeans and wasn’t really in proper job applying clothes. I also
realized that I didn’t have a cell phone..haha, so contacting me would be a bit
of an issue. Anyways, I said “fuck it” and decided to go up and talk to them
anyways, as I had resumes already printed in hand (Thanks Erin!:) I went up and
spoke to the owner John (apologized for my dress code) and then he introduced
me to his wife who then interviewed me.
She was really sweet and told me that they might be hiring in a few
weeks. She also told me where I can go to get my cell phone unlocked…boom! I
gave her my email as a contact and said we would be in touch. Talk about a
productive first day ;)
I then went to the bank and got my bank account all set up,
and the forms I will need for when I get a job so I can have direct deposit.
Then I went over to the grocery store and had a mild heart attack at all of the
insane prices. 5 cans of tuna, 5 apples,
1 milk, 1 pack or rice cakes and $30 later, I was on my way back to the hostel J
By this time it was 6:00 pm and I was sooooooooooo tired!! I
laid down to “rest my eyes” and then work up at 6:00 am this morning J whoops!! Just having a
coffee now and then I am going to head into the city to figure out my phone
situation. All in all I am very happy here and I think I have chosen a good
spot to land.
I miss you all at home and I tell ya, being away really
makes you appreciate things. The hostel doesn’t have wifi so I am writing this
at the hostel and will upload it to Blogger when I have wifi again.
Big hugs and love to everyone at home! Again, I am SORRYNOTSORRY for my poor grammar,
sudden profanity and overuse of quotations and brackets…hehe
Miss you all and love ya! J
